Signature Programs at Rumsey
VIIth Form (Grade 9) students at Rumsey have the unique opportunity to dive deep into a topic that interests them personally!
Makerspace Signature Program
The Makerspace Signature Program gives students a special place to think critically and creatively solve real world problems through project-based learning. The initiatives students will embark on in this program will engage them in cross-curricular learning experiences.
Using a variety of materials alongside modern technological devices, students will have plenty of opportunities to form creative questions and design innovative solutions.
As students go through the design process, they will: identify a problem; understand the need of the final user; create a prototype; and finally, construct a final product.
The Makerspace Program incorporates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) to encourage problem-solving skills. Students create their own projects after they learn basic electrical engineering concepts. Students enjoy the guided—yet open-ended—nature of this project based class.
In order to be considered for the Makerspace Signature Program, students must meet the following requirements:
- Participation in arts offerings such as: metal-working; 3-D design; woodshop; or ceramics in order to develop the requisite skills to create the final project.
- Creation of a project design proposal that identifies an innovative solution to a usenead. Once the proposal is approved, student will design a prototype which will be tested and revised before creating the final project. Students will solicit feedback on tie prototype from various constituents.
- Upon completion of the project, students will present their creation to a an audience of students and faculty.
